Iran is systematically and publicly violating the United Nations charter by threatening to destroy Israel and developing nuclear weapons for that purpose. Experience shows that neither positive incentives nor words of admonition will succeed in restraining Iran.
As a supporter of AJC, I commend the Security Council for expressing its concern. But words are not enough. Iran’s grave violation of the UN Charter demands a severe response: The United Nations must impose tougher sanctions against Iran. While I thank you for your words of concern, I urge you -- and the General Assembly -- to take decisive and meaningful action against Iran immediately.

Dear Mr. President:
When you visited Sderot, the terrorist-besieged Israeli town bordering Gaza, you laudably said you would do anything to defend your daughters if rockets were falling near their bedrooms. Israel’s campaign to remove Hamas’ terrorist capability is precisely that – a sovereign nation’s effort to protect the lives of its children against murderers who respect no peace, are impressed by no concession, and will not relent until they are compelled by military force to do so. As an AJC Advocate – and as one of so many Americans who congratulates you on your historic inauguration and wishes you success -- I urge you to stand by Israel’s right to defend her children, just as our nation or any other is entitled to defend our own.

Dear EU Commissioner Reding:
As you read this note, untold thousands, even millions, of Muslims in European countries are gathered around their television sets watching programs that preach the most virulent forms of anti-Semitic hatred. This hatred threatens to fuel the already alarming rise of anti-Jewish violence in Europe. As a supporter of the American Jewish Committee, I call on you, the EU Commissioner of Information Society and Media, to alert European leaders to the hatred preached in their societies and to urge them to exercise special vigilance in protecting the safety of Jewish communities. Please give this situation the urgent attention it requires.

Your Representative and Your Senator
As an American, I am outraged that the government of Saudi Arabia is using its officially published textbooks to inculcate an entire generation of young people with anti-Semitic and anti-Western hatred. The kingdom has consistently understated the severity of this problem, all the while posing as a friend of the United States. Congress must send a clear signal to the Saudi regime that its lessons in hatred must stop. I urge you to become a co-sponsor of bill H. Con. Res. 262, a resolution condemning the teaching of hatred in Saudi textbooks.

I deeply appreciate the commitment to democracy and equality your nation displayed by helping to secure Israel's invitation to join the UN Western European and Others Group (WEOG) in New York. As you know, Israel remains excluded in other key UN bodies around the world, such as the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Until Israel achieves full participation at the UN, it will sadly remain a second-class citizen.
We urge Great Britain to persevere in its efforts to grant
Israel permanent membership in WEOG, with the full rights enjoyed by every other country at the UN, as promised by the UN Charter's equality guarantee.
